Abstract

Myopia is a common disease that affects females more than males, especially during the growth stages from 6 to 18 years. The disease increases significantly and decreases after growth is complete. The incidence of the disease in females is due to the nature of their lives, which spend most of their time indoors, unlike males who spend most of their time outdoors. Also, the early growth of females compared to males and hormonal changes play a role in increasing their incidence of myopia, as some recent studies have shown [1]. In addition to the development of life and the use of computers and mobile phones, it has played a role in increasing the incidence of this disease in both sexes, as well as frequent close reading contributes to increasing the disease in both sexes, especially students, as recent studies have shown.

58 cases of myopia were studied in a clinic in Tripoli, including males and females, aged between 20 - 40 years. They underwent LASIK or Photorefractive Keratectomy surgery using the STAR S4 IR® System to correct their myopia. The percentage of male participants in the study was 24%, and the percentage of female participants in the study was 76%.

The study showed that 43.18% of females had moderate myopia, and 25% of them had severe myopia. As for males, the percentage of simple myopia was 28.5%, and 71.4% of them had moderate myopia. The study showed that all cases, males and females, had mild to moderate astigmatism. People should be made aware of the disease, females in particular, to maintain and prevent the disease by following the necessary recommendations and instructions to reduce the severity of the disease in case of infection.
